Greece Ranks 21st in World Economic Forum’s Travel & Tourism Development Index
Greece has made significant progress in the travel and tourism sector, moving up five spots to rank 21st among 119 countries in the 2024 World Economic Forum’s Travel & Tourism Development Index (TTDI). This marks a positive trend for the country’s tourism industry, showcasing its potential for growth and development.
The TTDI 2024, which is the second edition of the index, highlights Greece’s overall score of 4.52, reflecting its strengths and areas for improvement in the travel and tourism sector. The country excelled in categories such as health and hygiene, tourist services and infrastructure, ICT readiness, and air transport infrastructure. However, it faced challenges in travel and tourism demand sustainability, cultural resources, natural resources, price competitiveness, and non-leisure resources.
Compared to other Southern European countries, Greece performed well in environmental sustainability, health and hygiene, and tourist services and infrastructure. However, it lagged behind in business environment, security, price competitiveness, and cultural resources.
The top performers in the TTDI 2024 include the US, Spain, Japan, France, and Australia, with European countries dominating the list. The index also indicates that post-pandemic pent-up demand is expected to drive passenger numbers back up to 2019 levels this year, signaling a positive outlook for the global travel and tourism industry.
Overall, Greece’s improved ranking in the TTDI 2024 is a testament to the country’s efforts to enhance its tourism offerings and attract more visitors from around the world. With its rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality, Greece continues to be a top destination for travelers seeking memorable experiences.
