The Greenfield girls tennis team secured a crucial win on Wednesday as they continue their quest to make it to the MIAA Div. 4 state tournament. Playing on the road against Turners Falls, the Green Wave managed to clinch a 3-2 victory by winning at No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles, with No. 2 doubles being awarded via forfeit.
With this win, Greenfield improved their season record to 7-6. Lizzy Derivolkova dominated at No. 3 singles with a 6-4, 6-0 victory, while Lydia Wood and Karinna Kostov teamed up for a 6-1, 6-1 win in No. 1 doubles. Turners Falls fought hard, with Olivia Wolbach and Avery Heathwaite securing wins in No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively.
In boys tennis, Frontier defeated Mount Everett with Jacob Han and Robert Fuqua winning in singles, and Oliver Brown and Caiden Manning sealing the victory in doubles. In baseball action, Mohawk Trail emerged victorious over Franklin Tech with Weston den Ouden and Ty Griswold leading the offense. Hampshire also claimed a win over Greenfield in a tight pitchers’ duel.
Lastly, in boys volleyball, Frontier swept Granby with Aleks Carey and Jack Carey leading the charge with their impressive performances. The Redhawks head into the postseason on a high note after this dominant victory.
