Tucson students showcased their entrepreneurial spirit at The Gregory School’s 4th annual pitch competition, where they competed for prize money to fund their startup ideas. The event, held on May 10, brought together a group of the city’s entrepreneurs to judge the innovative products and business plans created by the students.
One standout idea came from junior Avery Johnson, who recognized the need for a solution to combat the negative effects of caffeine consumption among busy students. Her product, Sen, is a drink made from all-natural ingredients designed to counteract the anxiety and stress caused by energy drinks and coffee.
Other creative products presented at the competition included Snowbank, a portable charger for skiers and snowboarders, Spiced, spice kits for specific meals, and Carraway, a clear book cover to help book lovers connect with like-minded individuals.
In the end, Sen emerged as the winner, taking home the $1,200 prize. The team behind Sen has big plans for the future, including pop-up events on the University of Arizona campus and the launch of their website.
According to Dan Young, co-director of the Entrepreneurship Institute at The Gregory School, the students gained valuable skills in problem-solving and teamwork throughout the process. The competition not only showcased the students’ creativity and innovation but also provided them with real-world experience in entrepreneurship.
