Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Grand Rapids Griffins staged an impressive comeback to secure a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory against the Rockford IceHogs in Game 1 of the Central Division semifinal. The game, held at the BMO Center in Rockford, Illinois, saw the Griffins trailing 2-0 in the third period before Dominik Shine and Amadeus Lombardi scored crucial goals to level the score. The winning goal came from Jonatan Berggren at 4:14 of overtime, sealing the victory for the Griffins.

Sebastian Cossa, the rookie goalie for the Griffins, played a stellar game, stopping 20-of-22 shots and securing the win for his team. Cossa’s performance was particularly impressive as he became just the fifth rookie goalie in Griffins history to start a playoff game.

The series now moves to Game 2, which will take place at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids on Wednesday. The Griffins will look to build on their momentum from the thrilling Game 1 victory and take a commanding lead in the best-of-five series.

In other NHL playoff action, the Boston Bruins defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-1, with Brad Marchand breaking the Bruins’ playoff goals record. The New York Islanders also avoided a sweep by beating the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 in double overtime. Additionally, the Tampa Bay Lightning secured a 6-3 victory over the Florida Panthers to stay alive in their series.
