Gag Sheet Metal (GSM) and Becky Bakes were the toast of the town at the 2024 Big and Small Businesses of the Year celebration in New Ulm on Tuesday. Despite the rainy weather, the event was a success, with GSM being named the Large Business of the Year and Becky Bakes receiving the Small Business of the Year Award.

GSM, a family-owned business founded in 1904, has a long history in New Ulm and has recently consolidated its operations into a single location, making it more efficient and easier to manage. The company now focuses on employee retention and growth through investments in equipment and efficiency.

Becky Bakes, a mother/daughter bakery business, has quickly become a local favorite for its delicious cupcakes, cookies, and other baked goods. The business, which opened just before the COVID-19 pandemic, has seen increasing popularity and support from the community.

At the celebration, GSM President John Gag expressed his excitement at the turnout and praised Becky Bakes for their delicious desserts. He highlighted the community’s support for both businesses and their contributions to the local economy.

Becky Bakes will be celebrating Pop-Up Friday with a special menu featuring a variety of treats, including cupcakes, cookies, and more. The event is set to take place on Friday, May 24, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at their location on S. Minnesota St.

Overall, the 2024 Big and Small Businesses of the Year celebration was a testament to the thriving business community in New Ulm and the dedication of local entrepreneurs to providing quality products and services to their customers.
