Guardians dominate Mets, extend winning streak to 6 games | Latest updates on News, Sports, and Employment

The Cleveland Guardians pulled off a thrilling 6-3 victory over the New York Mets on Wednesday, with Johnathan Rodriguez delivering the game-winning hit in the seventh inning. Rodriguez, playing in just his second game since being called up from Triple-A Columbus, singled home David Fry to break a 3-3 tie and give the Guardians the lead.

In addition to his clutch hit, Rodriguez also showed his compassionate side in the first inning when he rescued a small black bird that had landed near him on the field. The 24-year-old outfielder gently picked up the bird and handed it over to a bullpen attendant to ensure its safety.

The Guardians, who trailed 3-0 going into the sixth inning, mounted a comeback with Andrés Giménez hitting a three-run homer to tie the game. José Ramírez and Kyle Manzardo added RBI doubles in the eighth to extend the lead.

Pitcher Hunter Gaddis earned the win, while rookie Cade Smith picked up his first save for Cleveland. The Mets, who had taken an early lead with home runs from Pete Alonso, Jeff McNeil, and Harrison Bader, fell to a season-high seven games below .500.

The victory extended the Guardians’ winning streak to six games and moved them into a tie for the second-best record in the majors at 33-17. With their strong performance, the Guardians are proving to be a force to be reckoned with in the AL Central.
