Reading Time: < 1 minute

Chess prodigy D. Gukesh returns home to a hero’s welcome in Chennai after his historic victory at the Candidates tournament. The 17-year-old grandmaster, who is now set to face Chinese champion Ding Liren for the World Championship title, was greeted by a crowd of over 80-90 students from his alma mater, Velammal Vidyalaya, as well as officials from the All India Chess Federation and the Sports Development Authority of India.

Gukesh, accompanied by his father and officials, was met with chants of his name as he emerged from the airport, with students wearing masks of his face and carrying chess mats and balloons in his honor. The young chess sensation, who has been compared to Vishwanathan Anand, was visibly moved by the outpouring of support from his fans and well-wishers.

Despite the overwhelming reception, Gukesh remained humble and focused on his upcoming match against Ding Liren. He expressed his gratitude to his team, including Indian chess legend Viswanathan Anand and his coaching contingent, for their support and guidance throughout his journey to the top.

As he prepares for the World Championship match, Gukesh is determined to stay focused and continue his winning streak. The young prodigy’s dedication to the game and his unwavering commitment to excellence have made him a role model for aspiring chess players in India and around the world.

With the support of his fans, family, and mentors, D. Gukesh is ready to take on the world and make his mark as one of the greatest chess players of his generation.
