Gustavus and Saint John’s Claim MIAC All-Sports Trophies for 2023-24 Season

Saint John’s University and Gustavus Adolphus College have emerged as the champions in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men’s and Women’s All-Sports Competitions for the 2023-24 academic year.

Saint John’s University secured the George Durenberger Trophy for men’s sports, marking their 17th overall win in the competition. On the other hand, Gustavus Adolphus College claimed the Pat Wiesner Trophy for women’s sports, their eighth overall victory. Both schools had also won their respective trophies in the previous two academic years.

In the men’s competition, Saint John’s University finished with 83 total points, with Bethel coming in second with 77 points. Gustavus Adolphus College secured third place with 76.5 points, closely followed by St. Olaf with 75 points.

On the women’s side, Gustavus Adolphus College dominated with 99.5 total points, clinching victories in volleyball, basketball, hockey, and swimming & diving. Saint Benedict secured second place with 89.5 points, while Bethel claimed third place with 84.5 points.

As the winners of each competition, Saint John’s University and Gustavus Adolphus College were awarded the George Durenberger Trophy and the Pat Wiesner Trophy, respectively. These trophies honor the schools’ outstanding performances in the MIAC All-Sports Competitions. The George Durenberger Trophy was donated by Saint John’s University, while the Pat Wiesner Trophy was donated by Macalester College.

The MIAC All-Sports Competitions recognize the overall excellence of institutions within the conference and celebrate their achievements in various sports throughout the academic year.
