Gwinn Modeltowners and Munising Mustangs Split Softball Wins in Close Matchup

Gwinn High School’s softball team ended a 12-game losing streak on Thursday with a thrilling doubleheader split against Munising. In the first game, Gwinn came out strong, taking an early lead with key hits from Adrian Roberts and Dakota Shepherd. The Modeltowners continued to dominate offensively, scoring six runs in the second inning to secure a 20-12 victory.

Pitcher Addyson Sayen was a standout player for Gwinn, striking out seven batters and helping her team secure the win. Head coach Monika Sylvester praised her team’s performance, highlighting their strong offensive and defensive play.

Despite the loss in the first game, Munising put up a strong fight with 15 hits and standout performances from players like Kaylin Kienitz and Kristin Joyner. In the second game, Munising came back strong, taking a commanding lead early on and ultimately winning 23-8.

Munising’s head coach Casey Ford commended his team’s offensive performance, particularly highlighting the contributions of Hayden Bayer. Gwinn’s pitching struggled to contain Munising’s offense, leading to a mercy rule victory for the Mustangs in the fourth inning.
