Habitat for Humanity builds two new homes for families in need

Tara Bredow and her four children are now proud homeowners thanks to Habitat for Humanity Northeast Michigan. After moving into their new home at 402 W. Washington Ave. in Alpena on Jan. 22, the family is overjoyed with their newfound sense of stability and security.

For Bredow, the journey to homeownership has been a long time coming. Previously living in income-based housing, she never imagined she would one day own a home. Now, with more space and a neighborhood they love, the family is grateful for the opportunity to call the house their own.

The children, Savannah Kamyszek, Cooper Knapp, Landon Knapp, and Micah Knapp, are thrilled with the new home. Cooper expressed his appreciation for the larger space and the freedom to make noise without worrying about neighbors. The family is also excited about the prospect of having their own yard to enjoy.

Bredow credits Habitat for Humanity Northeast Michigan for making the application process smooth and stress-free. She commends the staff for their support and friendliness throughout the entire process. With the help of Habitat, Bredow and her children now have a place they can truly call home.

The new home was built to blend in with the historical architecture of the surrounding homes on Washington Avenue, adding to the charm of the neighborhood. Across town, another Habitat for Humanity home on Merchant Street near McRae Park is nearing completion, ready to welcome a new family in the coming weeks.
