Hamas Says It Launched ‘Big Missile’ Attack On Tel Aviv

Hamas claimed responsibility for launching missiles at Tel Aviv on Sunday, triggering sirens in the Israeli city for the first time in four months. The attack was seen as a show of military strength by the Palestinian group amidst Israel’s ongoing offensive in Gaza.

The Israeli military reported that eight projectiles were identified crossing from the area of Rafah, the southern tip of the Gaza Strip. Despite a ruling by the top U.N. court ordering Israel to stop attacking the city, operations in Rafah continued.

While some of the projectiles were intercepted, Israeli emergency services stated that there were no reports of casualties. In response to the attack, the Hamas al-Qassam Brigades stated that the rockets were launched in retaliation for “Zionist massacres against civilians.”

The rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip, according to Hamas-affiliated Al-Aqsa TV. The city of Rafah, where the rockets originated, is located approximately 100 km (60 miles) south of Tel Aviv.

The ongoing conflict has resulted in significant civilian casualties, with at least five Palestinians killed in Rafah on Sunday alone. Efforts to reach a truce and secure the release of hostages have been hindered, but there are signs of progress following meetings between Israeli, U.S., and Qatari officials.
