The recent release of a video by Hamas showing Hersh Goldberg-Polin, an Israeli-American hostage, alive has sparked both relief and concern among his family and the international community. The 23-year-old was captured during Hamas’s attack on Israel on Oct. 7 and has been missing since then.

In the video, Goldberg-Polin is seen missing a lower arm but otherwise appearing healthy. He recounts sustaining serious injuries during the attack while trying to shield himself and other civilians. His mother, Rachel Goldberg-Polin, has been tirelessly campaigning for his release, along with the other 133 Israeli hostages still in captivity.

His parents, Jonathan Polin and Rachel Goldberg-Polin, have urged leaders involved in ceasefire negotiations to reach a deal for the release of all hostages. They emphasized the importance of prioritizing the well-being of their son and all those suffering in the region.

The attack on Israel by Hamas resulted in the capture of around 250 Israelis and foreigners, with a death toll of approximately 1,200 people, making it the deadliest single attack in Israel’s history. In response, Israel launched an assault on Gaza with the aim of destroying Hamas and bringing the hostages home. However, the assault has led to a devastating toll on the Palestinian population, with over 34,000 reported deaths according to Gaza health authorities.

The international community is now watching closely as negotiations continue in hopes of securing the safe return of all hostages and bringing an end to the violence in the region.
