Hanwha Aerospace, the leading aerospace and defense company in South Korea, has recently inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Widad Business Group, a prominent Malaysian investment firm. The agreement focuses on their collaboration for the Malaysian Army’s multiple rocket launcher acquisition project.
The MoU was signed on May 6 during the Defence Service Asia (DSA) Exhibition and Conference 2024 in Kuala Lumpur. Tan Sri Dato Muhammad lkmal Opat Abdullah, Chairman of Widad Business Group, and Go Sang-hwe, Executive Vice President of Hanwha Aerospace, sealed the deal in the presence of key dignitaries from both countries, including Malaysian Defense Minister Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Minister Seok Jong-gun of South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration.
Expressing his admiration for Hanwha’s track record in delivering defense solutions globally, Tan Sri Dato Muhammad lkmal Opat Abdullah stated, “I believe we have found an immense partner to further grow our business in the defense sector.” On the other hand, Go Sang-hwe emphasized Hanwha Aerospace’s commitment to enhancing Malaysia’s military capabilities through the partnership.
The Malaysian Army is set to acquire advanced multiple rocket launchers and support vehicles by 2026, replacing the aging fleet of Astros II systems. The K239 Chunmoo, a world-class self-propelled multiple rocket launcher system, is being considered for the project due to its versatility and adaptability in meeting various operational requirements.
With the signing of this MoU, Hanwha Aerospace and Widad Business Group are poised to play a pivotal role in bolstering Malaysia’s defense capabilities and fostering mutual advancement and prosperity in the future.
