Yasmin Ithier-Vicenty, a second-grade teacher at West Middle School, was awarded the prestigious title of Hartford Public Schools’ 2024 Teacher of the Year during a ceremony at the Hartford Marriot Downtown on Thursday evening.
In a statement released by the school district, Yasmin expressed her inspiration from her mother, Jacqueline Vicenty-Ithier, who was also a nominee for Teacher of the Year from Naylor School. Yasmin is dedicated to providing the best learning opportunities for all her students and is committed to being a lifelong learner herself.
The motto in Yasmin’s classroom is “Si, Se Puede,” which means “Yes, you can” in Spanish. She encourages her students to overcome challenges, big or small, and instills in them the belief that they can succeed.
Principal Joshua Scherer of West Middle School praised Yasmin for her engaging teaching style, energy, and enthusiasm. Hartford Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Leslie Torres-Rodriguez also commended Yasmin for her innovative approach to education and passion for providing equitable opportunities for students.
Yasmin has been a teacher in Hartford for eight years and holds a Bachelor’s degree in English and a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of New Haven. She was chosen as Teacher of the Year after a rigorous selection process that included written essays and classroom lesson recordings.
Yasmin’s dedication to her students and her commitment to excellence in teaching have earned her this well-deserved recognition. Congratulations to Yasmin Ithier-Vicenty on being named the 2024 Teacher of the Year for Hartford Public Schools.
