HC orders no arrest or harassment of Transcom Chairman and CEO for 72 hours upon their return

The High Court has issued a directive to law enforcement agencies to refrain from arresting or harassing three top officials of the Transcom Group for 72 hours upon their return to the country. The officials in question include the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Simeen Rahman, Chairman Shahnaz Rahman, and head of transformation Zaraif Ayaat Hossain.

However, the Transcom officials have been instructed to surrender in a competent court within 72 hours of their return in connection with a murder case. The High Court bench of Justice Md Khasruzzaman and Justice K M Zahid Sarwar passed the order after a hearing on a writ petition filed by the accused.

According to the complaint filed by Shahzreh Huq, the younger daughter of the late Chairman of the group, a murder case has been registered against 11 people, including two of the three officials mentioned above. The case pertains to the death of her elder brother, Arshad Waliur Rahman, who passed away nine months ago.

The accused officials, who are currently abroad, sought the High Court’s intervention to ensure their safe return and surrender in court without any hindrance. The Chamber Court of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court had previously issued similar directives in three other cases filed against Transcom Group officials.

In addition to the murder case, Shahzreh had filed three other cases with the police station accusing eight top officials, including the Chairman and CEO, of fraud and breach of trust related to the company’s shares and properties. The legal proceedings are ongoing, and the accused officials are expected to comply with the court’s directives upon their return to the country.
