The 2024 Earth Day Celebration in Elkins City Park is set to be a fun-filled event for families and people of all ages. Organizers Kay Hart and Jane Birdsong are gearing up for the festivities, which will take place on Saturday, April 20, from noon to 2 p.m., rain or shine.
The event will feature various activities and attractions to celebrate Earth Day, including educational booths, interactive games, and live entertainment. Attendees can also enjoy delicious food and drinks from local vendors.
In addition to the Earth Day Celebration, the ninth annual West Virginia Autism Supportive Center’s “Light the Night” 5K run and walk is scheduled for Friday, April 26 at River Bend Park. Participants are encouraged to pre-register to receive a race t-shirt, with on-site registration available on the day of the event.
Meanwhile, Elkins City Council will be meeting on a special day next week to “lay the levy.” The council will convene in a special session on Tuesday at 7 p.m. as part of the process of establishing the city’s budget for the upcoming year.
In other news, the Randolph County Commission recently signed proclamations in recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month and National Child Abuse Prevention. Commissioners Cris Siler, David Kesling, and Chris See approved the proclamations at their most recent meeting.
West Virginia Treasurer Riley Moore also made headlines by adding four more financial institutions to the list of those boycotting investments in fossil fuel companies. Moore emphasized the importance of divesting from fossil fuels to combat climate change and protect the environment.
