Headlines: Updates on US Open, college football, and NASCAR

Reading Time: < 1 minute

After nearly a decade on cable, the men’s final of the US Open is returning to broadcast television, marking a significant shift in the way fans will be able to watch the prestigious tennis tournament. ESPN announced Wednesday that the men’s final of the US Open will air on ABC on September 8, the first time since 2014 that the event has been broadcast on a major network.

The move to ABC comes with a scheduling change, as the match will now start at 2 PM ET, two hours earlier than in previous years. This adjustment aligns with ABC’s programming schedule, ensuring that the match does not run into primetime programming.

In addition to the US Open news, ABC also made announcements regarding college football and NASCAR. The network will debut its new SEC package with a tripleheader featuring top teams like Clemson, Georgia, Miami, Florida, Notre Dame, and Texas A&M on August 31, the opening Saturday of the season.

CBS will also air a full slate of Big Ten games this season, including matchups like Notre Dame vs. Purdue and USC vs. Michigan. Meanwhile, the Pac-12 teams Oregon State and Washington State have confirmed that their home games will be broadcast on CW and FOX.

On the NASCAR front, Amazon and TNT have revealed details of their upcoming coverage, with Amazon set to air the Coca-Cola 600 from Charlotte entirely on a direct-to-consumer platform. TNT will kick off its five-race schedule with a primetime race from Atlanta on June 28, coinciding with the launch of the new NASCAR In-Season Tournament.

Overall, these scheduling nuggets from the network upfronts promise an exciting lineup of sports programming for fans to look forward to in the coming months.
