Nuffield Health, a popular health club company, has announced the permanent closure of hot tubs at the majority of its fitness and wellbeing centers due to rising energy costs. This decision has sparked anger among customers who were hoping for the spa pools to reopen after being temporarily switched off in the autumn.
Messages sent to members this week revealed that the spa pools, located in 72 out of 114 centers, will not be turned back on “across most of our estate.” Some locations, like the Covent Garden branch in London, will be repurposing the spa pool area instead.
Many customers took to Twitter to express their frustration, with some demanding a reduction in membership fees in light of the closure. However, Nuffield Health stated that no discounts would be offered, but members could cancel their memberships if they wished.
The company cited the significant energy usage of its gyms and the considerable rise in energy costs as the reasons behind the decision. Despite the closure of the hot tubs, Nuffield Health assured customers that steam rooms, saunas, and swimming pools would remain open as usual.
Overall, the closure of the hot tubs has left many customers disappointed and questioning the value of their memberships, especially as they continue to face the challenges of the energy crisis.
