Health & Fitness Association President & CEO Liz Clark Leads Successful Advocacy Summit in Washington, DC

Four years after taking the helm at the Health & Fitness Association, President & CEO Liz Clark has proven her prowess in building strong relationships within the industry and with policymakers.

With a background as a lobbyist for the National Confectioners Association (NCA), Clark’s experience in navigating the political landscape has been instrumental in her role at Health & Fitness. Under her leadership, the association recently completed its latest HFA Fly-In and Advocacy Summit in Washington, DC, where industry leaders met with members of Congress to advocate for important legislation.

One of the key initiatives pushed during the summit was the Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) Act, which aims to allow Americans to use funds from flexible spending accounts and health savings accounts for fitness-related expenses. The event also highlighted the Cardiac Arrest Survival Act and initiatives to promote fitness within the armed services.

Clark emphasized the importance of building long-term relationships with legislators and industry stakeholders, noting the positive impact of the fly-in on both policymakers and participants. The event saw a record number of attendees from various health clubs and studios, as well as sponsoring suppliers.

The success of this year’s summit has set the stage for an even larger event in 2025, with Clark aiming to double participation and further amplify the industry’s voice in Washington. The event included educational sessions, networking opportunities, and a workout session near the Capitol building, showcasing the industry’s commitment to promoting health and fitness.
