Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Health & Fitness Association Fly-In and Advocacy Summit in Washington, DC saw a record-breaking attendance this year, with 120 industry leaders coming together to advocate for important legislation in the health and fitness industry. The event, organized by the Health & Fitness Association, formerly known as IHRSA, doubled in size from the previous year, showcasing the growing interest and commitment of industry professionals.

One of the key focuses of the summit was the promotion of the Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) Act, which would allow Americans to use funds from flexible spending accounts and health savings accounts for fitness-related expenses. With 76 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives and 18 in the Senate, industry leaders met with 130 Congress members to garner support for the bill.

In addition to advocating for the PHIT Act, participants also pushed for initiatives to promote National Guard soldier readiness through fitness programs and federal protection for those using AEDs in fitness facilities. The event included educational sessions on the economic impact of the health and fitness industry, as well as discussions on childhood obesity and the importance of physical activity.

The summit concluded with a reception at Nationals Park and a workout session near the capitol building, highlighting the commitment of industry leaders to promoting physical activity and advocating for important legislation. With plans already in place for next year’s summit, the Health & Fitness Association continues to be a driving force in shaping the future of the industry.
