Helfrich’s Transition to Singles Proves Successful in Hand Girls’ Tennis

Hand junior Ella Helfrich has made a successful transition from doubles competition to the No. 2 singles spot for the Hand girls’ tennis team. With a regular season record of 8-6, the team is gearing up to defend its Class M state crown, and Ella is ready to lead the charge.

Starting her tennis journey at the age of 4, Ella has always had a passion for the sport. After playing sporadically through junior high and dabbling in basketball and soccer, she decided to focus solely on tennis in high school. As a freshman, she played at No. 3 singles before moving to doubles in her sophomore year.

This season, Ella stepped up to fill a void in the Tigers’ lineup and has excelled in her new role. With a focus on staying composed and present during matches, Ella has found success on the singles court. She credits her experience in doubles for helping her develop her net game and strategic skills.
