Hezbollah Strikes Israeli Military Post with Drone Attack
In a daring move, the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah launched a drone attack on a military post in northern Israel this week, firing two missiles that wounded three soldiers, one of them seriously, according to the Israeli military.
This attack marks the first successful missile airstrike launched by Hezbollah from within Israeli airspace, escalating tensions between the two adversaries. Hezbollah has been increasing its attacks on Israel in recent weeks, especially since the Israeli incursion into the southern city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip.
Lebanese political analyst Faisal Abdul-Sater, who closely follows Hezbollah, stated, “This is a method of sending messages on the ground to the Israeli enemy, meaning that this is part of what we have, and if needed we can strike more.”
Hezbollah’s use of more advanced weaponry, including drones capable of firing missiles and explosive drones, has raised alarms within the Israeli military. The group has also introduced new types of rockets with heavy warheads, such as the Almas missile used in the recent attack.
Hezbollah’s recent escalation is seen as a response to Israeli military operations in Gaza, with the group vowing to continue fighting along the Lebanon-Israel border until Israel’s actions in Gaza cease. Foreign dignitaries, including U.S. and French officials, have been working to broker a ceasefire and end the violence that has displaced thousands on both sides of the border.
Hezbollah’s deputy leader Naim Kassim warned Israel against opening an all-out war, reminding them of the 2006 conflict that ended in a draw. The situation remains tense as both sides brace for further confrontations in the region.
