Hezbollah Issues Warning to Israel After Strike on Iranian Embassy in Syria

Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah group issued a stern warning to Israel following a strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria, which resulted in the death of high-level Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) members. The attack, which took place the day before, killed seven IRGC members, including Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi and Brigadier General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi.

Hezbollah, known for its support of Hamas, has been engaged in near-daily cross-border fire with Israel since the Gaza war erupted in October. In response to the attack, Hezbollah stated, “Certainly, this crime will not pass without the enemy receiving punishment and revenge.”

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a total of 11 people were killed in the strikes, including eight Iranians, two Syrians, and one Lebanese fighter. Zahedi, who was among the casualties, was described by Hezbollah as a key figure in advancing the group’s resistance efforts in Lebanon.

While Israel has refrained from commenting on the reported attack, Iranian officials have vowed a strong response, raising concerns about escalating tensions between Israel and Iran’s allies. The fear of further violence looms large, especially in the midst of the ongoing Gaza war.
