Prior experience with programming is needed and certification in AP Computer Science Principles is encouraged. Terms of Employment: 190 daysJob Summary:
The Computer Science CATE teacher will work with Junior and Senior level students who have chosen to participate in the Major Program of study at CHS. The Computer Science CATE teacher will facilitate the instruction of students with a desire to pursue careers in Computer Science including Computer Systems Analyst and Software Developer. The teacher will seek out opportunities for students to participate in local, regional, and national projects and contests as well as local shadowing and internship experiences. The teacher will maintain the Technical Advanced Placement agreement with Horry Georgetown Technical College so that students have the opportunity to earn credit hours at that institution; additionally, this teacher will need to serve on the HGTC Advisory Board as well as maintain a CATE Advisory Board for the Computer Science Major at CHS. Key skills needed for this position include time management, prioritization, and communication skills, strong writing skills, creativity, and teamwork, the ability to meet deadlines, extensive knowledge and experience with social media platforms, and the ability to plan, manage, and execute initiatives.The Computer Science major is designed to focus on the understanding and design of computers and computational processes. Students enrolled in this major will think both concretely and abstractly to solve problems that require creativity, careful reasoning, and precision. This major spans theory and practice. The major explores the design and operation of computer hardware and software by developing problem-solving skills and the ability to apply computational thinking to real-world problems.Essential Duties

  • Facilitating instruction for high school students in the Computer Science Major Program, specifically as it pertains to the scaffolded skill acquisition in the following areas: human-computer interaction, programming, geographic information systems, and cyber security.
  • Ability to combine skills from several disciplines including computer science and design and to model collaboration.
  • Help students develop soft skills including leadership, collaboration, effective communication, problem-solving, work ethic, adaptability, and interpersonal skills.
  • Create lessons focusing on programming and coding, ‘app’ and website development, robotics, cyber security, computer forensics, and geographic information systems, so that students will be prepared for further study the fast-paced world of technology.
  • Facilitate work-based learning experiences through mentoring, field trips, and internships which allow students to showcase their education while gaining valuable experience.
  • Recruit new students to the major by attending
  • Open House events and recruitment events.

Other Duties
Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.Job Specifications
The performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the District’s policy on the Evaluation of Professional Personnel.Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required)

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Higher from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Certification as required by the state of South Carolina in Computer Science, Math, or Business.
  • Eligible for CATE/Occupational/Vocational teacher certification.
  • A minimum of 4 years of industry experience and/or professional license.
  • AP Computer Science certification preferred.
