High-tech drones from RRU to assist farmers in Gandhinagar | Ahmedabad News

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) in Gandhinagar is set to revolutionize farming practices with the establishment of a state-of-the-art drone robotics center (DRC) in collaboration with Brane Services Pvt Ltd. This partnership aims to develop cutting-edge rooster drone technology and counter-drone technologies, while also piloting an initiative to monitor farmlands and improve yield for local farmers using drones.

The unique aspect of this collaboration is the use of rooster drones, which can function both as a robot on the ground and a drone in the air. Colonel Kanvaljit Singh, Associate Dean at RRU, highlighted the importance of this initiative as a CSR activity in neighboring villages to enhance farmers’ productivity and reduce costs through efficient monitoring and interventions.

The pilot project will run for a year, after which the RRU plans to seek funding from the state government to expand the use of drones for agriculture across the country. If successful, this model could be replicated in villages near RRU’s other campuses in Arunachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Puducherry, and Shimoga in Karnataka.

Furthermore, Brane Services will provide internship opportunities for RRU students at the DRC unit on campus. The company’s expertise in drone technology, demonstrated by the handover of rooster drone prototypes to the Indian Army’s Northern Command, will be instrumental in advancing agricultural practices and enhancing national security.

Overall, the collaboration between RRU and Brane Services signifies a significant step towards integrating technology into agriculture and fostering innovation in drone robotics for the benefit of farmers and the community at large.
