Hingham Boys Tennis Team Upsets Undefeated Sharon to Advance to Division 2 Final Four

In a thrilling upset, the Hingham boys tennis team secured a 3-2 victory over previously undefeated Sharon, who entered the match with a perfect 21-0 record. The No. 10 ranked Harbormen (18-3) achieved their goal of advancing past the Division 2 Round of Eight, a feat they had not accomplished in recent seasons.

The match was a tense showdown, with Parker Schultz leading the charge with a quick 6-1, 6-2 win over Sharon’s Matthew Lally. Travis Rugg and Eric Li followed suit with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at first doubles, setting the stage for a nail-biting finish.

With the score tied at 2-2, Ethan Warhaftig and the duo of Liam Arnold and Evan Lynch fought hard to secure the win. Arnold and Lynch clinched the victory with a hard-fought 6-2, 6-7, 6-1 win, while Warhaftig retired after a grueling match.

The match was delayed due to a downpour, but thanks to the efforts of coaches, parents, and players, the courts were dried and the game resumed under the sun.

Coach Eric Gill praised his team’s performance, highlighting Schultz’s stellar play and the dominance of the first doubles pair. The win marks a significant milestone for the team, as they advance to the Division 2 Final Four to face off against No. 3 Duxbury.

Players expressed their excitement and determination to continue their winning streak, with Arnold emphasizing the team’s focus and endurance in securing the historic victory.

The Hingham boys tennis team’s triumph over Sharon showcases their resilience and skill, setting the stage for an exciting Final Four showdown.
