Former HISD Superintendent Richard Miles Responds to Allegations of Misusing Funds

In a recent statement sent out via email, former Houston Independent School District (HISD) Superintendent Richard Miles addressed allegations of directing funds to private schools in Colorado. The response comes after a news article circulated claiming financial impropriety at Third Future Schools, where Miles previously worked.

Miles began by expressing his initial reluctance to respond to the article, which he believes misrepresents the financial practices of Third Future Schools. He emphasized that during his tenure, the organization was always responsible with public funds, with all financial agreements approved by local boards of directors and school districts.

The former superintendent defended Third Future Schools’ track record of clean audits and financial propriety, stating that the allegations are baseless and undermine the hard work of staff and students. He also clarified that administrative fees applied to schools were part of common financial arrangements between charter schools and management organizations.

Miles also addressed the reporter’s attempt to undermine the progress made in Dallas ISD, calling the assertions spurious and not worth further attention. He reiterated his commitment to focusing on improving Texas’ largest district and urged partners to do the same.

As the school year comes to a close, Miles emphasized the importance of finishing strong for students and staff, looking ahead to future challenges and accomplishments. Despite the allegations, he remains dedicated to the mission of improving education in Texas.
