Historic Copenhagen Stock Exchange in Denmark Engulfed in Flames

Reading Time: < 1 minute

A devastating fire has engulfed Denmark’s historic old stock exchange building in the heart of Copenhagen, leaving onlookers in shock as the iconic dragon spire collapsed into the street below. The 17th Century Børsen, one of the city’s oldest buildings, was a symbol of Danish cultural heritage for over 400 years.

The fire, which broke out during renovations, took hours to bring under control as members of the public rushed to save historic paintings from the burning building. The Danish chamber of commerce, housed in the old stock exchange, described the scene as a “terrible sight” and vowed to rebuild the structure.

Local craftsman Henrik Grage compared the tragedy to the fire at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, which occurred almost five years ago. The cause of the fire in Copenhagen is still unknown, but emergency services faced challenges due to the scaffolding surrounding the building.

Despite the extensive damage, efforts were made to rescue valuable artworks and artifacts from the building. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen expressed sorrow over the loss of Danish history, while King Frederik X described the fire as a “sad sight” for the country’s cultural heritage.

As investigations continue into the cause of the fire, the people of Denmark mourn the loss of a significant piece of their history and architectural heritage.
