Sheffield Track Teams Dominate in Tri-Meet, Junior Breaks School Record
In an impressive showing on Monday, Sheffield High School’s boys and girls track teams both secured victories over Oswayo Valley and Otto-Eldred. The boys team triumphed with scores of 107-34 against both opponents, while the Lady Wolverines, despite having a smaller team, managed to secure a 75-52 win over Oswayo Valley and a thrilling 68-66 upset over Otto-Eldred.
The highlight of the meet came from junior Sarah Hoffman, who shattered a school record that had stood for 28 years in the 300-meter low hurdles. Hoffman’s time of 51.88 seconds surpassed the previous record of 52.03 set by Cari Sixt (Conlin) in 1996. Sheffield coach Jason Snell praised Hoffman’s performance, noting her resilience in facing tough competition and her qualification for districts in the 300-meter hurdles.
Hoffman’s accomplishment was met with admiration from Sixt herself, who expressed her joy for the junior athlete. In addition to her record-breaking run, Hoffman also clinched victory in the 200-meter race with a time of 30.06.
The Sheffield boys team also delivered standout performances, with multiple athletes securing wins in various events. Notable achievements included a clean sweep of all three relays and individual double victories by athletes like Isaac Hammerbeck and Colby Barr.
Coach Snell expressed his pride in the team’s success, emphasizing the hard work and dedication of both the athletes and coaching staff. The meet was not only a night of impressive results but also a memorable moment for the Sheffield track program.
