Hofstra University Announces Spring Commencement Speakers

Hofstra University has revealed the lineup of commencement speakers for its spring graduation ceremonies on Sunday, May 19. The day will be filled with three separate ceremonies, where over 1,700 undergraduate and graduate students are set to receive their degrees.

Vanessa Baird-Streeter, president and CEO of the Health & Welfare Council of Long Island (HWCLI), will address the 9 a.m. undergraduate ceremony. Margaret Hoover, host of Firing Line with Margaret Hoover on PBS, will speak at the 1 p.m. undergraduate ceremony. Holden Thorp, editor-in-chief of the Science family of journals, will deliver the keynote speech at the 5 p.m. graduate ceremony and also receive an honorary degree.

The ceremonies will take place at Hofstra’s David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex on the North Campus. Tickets are required for entry, but each ceremony will be livestreamed for those unable to attend.

Susan Poser, president of Hofstra University, expressed excitement about the diverse and accomplished speakers chosen for the spring commencement. She stated, “Hofstra’s spring commencement speakers are a diverse group of exceptional leaders whose careers and commitment to service exemplify what is possible for the graduating students.”
