Blair County native Christopher McGee made a triumphant return home as he carried the American flag through his leg of the 1,600-mile Team RWB Old Glory Relay from Philadelphia to Chicago. McGee, a member of the Atlanta-based nonprofit Team Red, White & Blue, led his team to the Blair County Courthouse as part of the 10th annual relay.
The flag, made by Allegiance Flag Supply in South Carolina, had been flown over American military bases supporting Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq and Syria before starting its journey on April 19. Each leg of the relay covers approximately 50 miles, with stops in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and Michigan before concluding at Wrigley Field in Chicago for the Chicago Cubs’ military appreciation night.
McGee, a 20-year Pennsylvania National Guard veteran, was honored to carry the flag through his hometown of Hollidaysburg. He expressed his deep connection to the area, stating, “This is small town America, this is what I love — this is home.”
Despite facing challenging terrain and weather conditions, McGee and his team successfully completed their leg of the relay, reaching the courthouse after a long day of running and cycling. As a dedicated member of Team RWB for over a decade, McGee finds purpose and camaraderie in the organization, which helps veterans prioritize their health and wellness through community-building programs.
With the support of volunteers like Cindy Moore, a fellow army veteran, Team RWB continues to make a positive impact on the lives of veterans across the country. The Old Glory Relay serves as a powerful symbol of unity and resilience, highlighting the strength and determination of those who have served their country.
