Buffalo native and Hollywood star Addison Henderson is making a difference in his community by mentoring middle school students in the Buffalo Public Schools system. Through the Canisius University Academic Talent Search Program, Henderson is using his skills and experience to inspire and educate young minds.

Fifth graders Sha’miya Williams and Imani Hunter are just two of the students benefiting from Addison’s mentorship. They are learning important lessons about perseverance and the value of hard work. “The most important thing for me that we learn about is that if something is hard you keep doing it because then it’ll make you better,” Sha’miya says.

The program also aims to provide support services to BPS students from 5th to 12th grade, helping them with public speaking and self-expression. Elizabeth Caffee, director of the program, emphasizes the importance of matching students with mentors they can identify with. “Bringing people back that were born and raised here was a perfect opportunity,” she says.

Addison encourages parents to get their children involved in afterschool programs like the Canisius University Academic Talent Search Program. He believes that these opportunities can help children grow and evolve into the individuals they aspire to be.

If you’re interested in signing up your student for this program, visit the Canisius University website for more information. Addison Henderson’s dedication to giving back to his community through mentorship is truly inspiring and making a positive impact on the next generation.
