Saranac Lake Softball Team Falls to Moriah in Rain-Shortened Game

SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake softball team faced off against the Moriah Vikings in their final home game of the season, but the game was cut short due to rain with the Vikings coming out on top with a 23-11 victory.

The Vikings managed to split the season series with the Red Storm at 1-1, with Saranac Lake previously defeating Moriah 10-4 on the road. Despite the loss, the Red Storm put up a good fight, but the rain made conditions difficult for both teams.

Lexi Mascarenas led the charge for the Vikings with three hits, including an RBI triple in the first inning. Teammate Maddy Gallo also contributed with two hits in the game. The Vikings took an early lead and never looked back, scoring runs in multiple innings to secure the win.

Pitching was a challenge for both teams as the rain made the softballs slippery, resulting in a high number of walks and a few hit by pitches. Saranac Lake’s Kylee Meyer recorded five strikeouts before being replaced by Emma Akey, who added two more strikeouts. Moriah’s Amelia Kazlo pitched a complete game with two strikeouts.

Despite the loss, Saranac Lake showed resilience by scoring 10 runs in the final three innings, including a strong performance from Payton Barry and Emily Gay. The Red Storm will now turn their focus to the playoffs, where they will face tough competition in Section VII, Class B.

Overall, it was a hard-fought game between Saranac Lake and Moriah, with the Vikings ultimately coming out on top in a rain-shortened contest.
