The South Hamilton girls track and field team put on an impressive performance at the Hawkette Relays, held in front of a home crowd. Despite their best efforts, they were narrowly edged out by Roland-Story for the team gold.
Daytona Ferrie and Kendra Hoversten were standout performers for the Hawks, sweeping the throwing events. Ferrie took first place in the discus with a throw of 99-8, while Hoversten claimed victory in the shot put with a launch of 32-10.
The relay teams also had a strong showing, with the sprint medley relay team of Sydnee Flaugh, Makena Galetich, Tanna Thompson, and Ashlyn Erickson securing a gold medal with a time of 2:00.64. The 4×400 relay team of Brooklyn Doolittle, Galetich, Erickson, and Thompson finished first with a time of 4:39.14.
Individual performances were also noteworthy, with Thompson finishing as the 400 runner-up and Kayley Zanker earning silver in the 3,000. The team also had several second and third place finishes in various events.
South Hamilton’s 4×100 relay team will be competing at the prestigious Drake Relays this Saturday after a strong showing at the Hawkette Relays. The team continues to show promise and determination as they progress through the track and field season.
