Vriko Kwok, a 32-year-old from Hong Kong, defied the odds and overcame bullying to become a successful ultra-runner. With no prior running experience, Kwok took on the challenge of participating in Further, an event organized by sportswear brand Lululemon, where she ran an impressive 303.313 kilometers in less than a year.
The Further event, held in Lake Cahuilla, California, supported 10 female athletes from around the world to run their farthest distance over six days. Kwok, alongside her teammates, collectively ran 4636.327 kilometers, with US ultrarunner Camille Herron setting multiple records.
Despite facing physical and mental challenges during the event, Kwok persevered and completed the challenge without any injuries, thanks to her dedication to training and listening to her body. She followed a rigorous training program that included running, aerial yoga, and strength training, gradually increasing her mileage from 55 kilometers a month to 500 kilometers by January 2024.
Kwok’s journey from a victim of bullying to a successful ultra-runner serves as an inspiration to many. She hopes to inspire inclusivity and representation in the running community and encourage others to explore their full potential. Kwok’s determination and resilience prove that with hard work and perseverance, anything is possible.
