Houghton Men’s Tennis Team Faces Tough Challenge in NCAA Division III National Tournament

SWARTHMORE, PA — The Houghton men’s tennis team is gearing up for a challenging match as they face off against No. 20 North Carolina Wesleyan in the first round of the NCAA Division III National Tournament. The match is scheduled for Friday at 10 a.m. at Swarthmore College outside Philadelphia, Pa.

Houghton, with a record of 9-4 overall, is making its third appearance at the tournament in the past four years after clinching the Empire 8 title last weekend. On the other hand, North Carolina Wesleyan, with a record of 16-8, are the champions of the USA South Athletic Conference and are making their 15th appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

The winner of this match will go on to face the hosts, Swarthmore, currently ranked No. 8 in the nation, in the second round on Saturday at 10 a.m. The Highlanders are entering the tournament on an impressive 8-match win streak.

The projected lineup for Houghton in Friday’s match includes Levi Webb and Nolan Zach in first doubles, Micah Schilke and Graham Cook in second doubles, Tobias Webb and Jason Murphy in third doubles, and various players in singles matches.
