Maryhill Housing Association Receives £25m Funding Boost from Royal Bank of Scotland
Maryhill Housing Association, a community-based housing association in the Northwest of Glasgow, has recently secured a significant funding boost of nearly £25m from Royal Bank of Scotland. This funding will be used to improve and maintain the association’s current homes, while also making strides towards achieving net zero goals.
With over 3,100 properties in the Maryhill and Ruchill areas, including tenements, retirement housing, and multi-storey apartments, Maryhill Housing Association has been a vital part of the community for almost fifty years. The funding from Royal Bank of Scotland will enable the association to enhance the quality of life for residents through various improvement and maintenance projects.
One of the key initiatives that will be supported by this funding is the enhancement of energy efficiency in the homes managed by Maryhill Housing Association. This includes replacing old storage heaters in over 600 homes with new high heat retention technology, which will not only reduce running costs but also make tenants less vulnerable to fluctuating energy bills.
In alignment with Glasgow’s ambitious targets of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2045, the work carried out by Maryhill Housing Association will contribute to the city’s green goals. The association has also committed to collaborating with external partners to develop an affordable warmth and net zero strategy this year.
Additionally, the funding will be used to expand the portfolio of energy-efficient properties under MHA management, with sixteen new homes set to be built and provided for social rent in the Ruchill area of Glasgow. These efforts aim to provide high-quality, well-maintained housing for families in the community.
Bryony Willet, Chief Executive at Maryhill Housing Association, emphasized the importance of sustainability projects in providing efficient solutions for tenants and contributing to a greener Scotland. Alan Newlands, Relationship Manager at Royal Bank of Scotland, expressed the bank’s commitment to supporting registered social landlords like Maryhill Housing Association in improving housing efficiency and addressing key issues in the sector.
The partnership between Maryhill Housing Association and Royal Bank of Scotland dates back to 2003, and both parties are excited to continue working together to renovate and innovate within the communities they serve. The funding from Royal Bank of Scotland will play a crucial role in accelerating the refurbishment of homes and creating new builds that are not only functional but also conducive to building a better life for residents.
