However, a recently updated support document on the company’s website has confirmed that WordPad will be removed from Windows 11 24H2 and Windows Server 2025.
WordPad, first released in 1995, has been a staple in every version of the Windows operating system as a basic word-processing software. WindowsLatest has confirmed that the Windows 11 24H2 builds available in Insider Preview no longer come with WordPad pre-installed, indicating the discontinuation of the software.
For users who rely on WordPad, there are plenty of alternative options available. Notepad, the most basic word processor in Windows 11, is still available for basic tasks. Additionally, Microsoft Office suite offers more advanced features for word processing needs.
The updated Notepad in Windows 11 now includes an updated interface, dark mode, and support for tabs, allowing users to open multiple documents simultaneously. Users can also access Office 365 or the web version of Office for free.
