Eastern Florida State College men’s tennis player Hugo Car made history by winning the national title at No. 1 singles at the NJCAA Division I National Tournament at Collin College in Texas. The sophomore from France defeated Tyler Junior College’s Juan Carlos Garcia in the final to claim the title, marking the first singles championship in the program’s history.
In a thrilling match, Car took an early lead of 5-2 in the first set, but Garcia fought back to cut the lead to 5-4. Car managed to secure the win with a 6-4 score on the third deuce. The second set was equally intense, with Car eventually emerging victorious after a series of strong shots and long rallies.
Reflecting on his achievement, Car expressed his happiness with the match and credited his opponent for putting up a tough fight. He highlighted the significance of being ranked No. 1 in the ITA JUCO rankings throughout the season and expressed pride in his performance.
