Hulu Acquires Streaming Rights for U.K. Gay-Themed Dating Reality Show ‘I Kissed a Boy’

In a groundbreaking move, Disney-owned Hulu has acquired the streaming rights for the U.K.’s first gay-themed reality dating show, “I Kissed a Boy.” The show is set to premiere on June 15, 2024, right in the middle of pride month.

Hosted by Australian actress Dannii Minogue, “I Kissed a Boy” features 10 single gay men in an Italian villa who will kick off the dating process by kissing another contestant before even speaking to them. If a man does not receive a kiss, he is eliminated from the show.

The trailer for the show showcases scenes of the men engaging in overtly homosexual behavior, including kissing and dancing suggestively in revealing outfits. The show promises to bring a fresh and authentic perspective to the reality dating genre.

Hulu has also acquired the rights to the lesbian-themed counterpart, “I Kissed a Girl,” which premiered earlier this month on the BBC. The show follows a similar format but with female contestants. The premiere date for “I Kissed a Girl” on Hulu is yet to be announced.

These shows are part of Hulu’s pride month lineup, which was announced earlier this month. The move comes as Disney continues to integrate Hulu with its other streaming platform, Disney+, which caters to a younger audience.

However, Disney has faced criticism in recent years for allegedly promoting an overtly LGBT agenda, with some accusing the company of pushing inappropriate content on children. Despite these controversies, Disney remains committed to showcasing diverse and inclusive content on its platforms.
