Hunter’s federal gun trial to feature testimony from Beau Biden’s widow

Hunter Biden’s upcoming federal gun charges trial is set to feature testimony from three of his exes, including his late brother’s widow, in a case that hinges on his substance use disorder.

Special counsel David Weiss, who brought the charges against Mr. Biden last September, plans to present personal testimony from the three unnamed witnesses to speak about his substance use disorder in October 2018. The witnesses are believed to be Kathleen Buhle, Mr. Biden’s ex-wife; Hallie Biden, his late brother’s widow; and Lunden Roberts, with whom he fathered a child.

The testimony will support the government’s claim that Mr. Biden lied on a federal background check form when purchasing a firearm, stating he was not an unlawful user of a controlled substance. Ms. Buhle will testify about finding drugs in Mr. Biden’s vehicle multiple times in 2018, while Hallie Biden observed him using drugs and removed a gun he allegedly purchased.

Prosecutors also allege that Ms. Roberts witnessed Mr. Biden using crack cocaine frequently during their relationship. In addition to the exes’ testimony, excerpts from Mr. Biden’s memoir detailing his addiction will be presented as evidence.

Mr. Biden faces three federal charges and has pleaded not guilty. The trial is expected to shed light on his past struggles with substance abuse and the alleged illegal purchase of a firearm.
