The Fredonia baseball team continued their winning streak with a dominant 10-0 shutout victory over Southwestern in CCAA Division 1 action on Friday. Senior Owen Rush set the tone early with a first-inning solo home run, showcasing his power and versatility at the plate.

Junior pitcher Ashton Putney delivered another stellar performance on the mound, going 5 2/3 innings without allowing a run. Despite some early struggles with his offspeed pitches, Putney relied on his excellent fastball to keep Southwestern hitters off balance.

Head coach Tim Cowan praised Putney’s performance, calling it a solid ‘B’ outing against a quality opponent. Rush’s offensive contribution didn’t stop with his home run, as he played a key role in Fredonia’s five-run third inning rally.

The Hillbillies capitalized on Southwestern’s defensive miscues, scoring runs in a variety of ways to extend their lead. Cowan highlighted the team’s focus on taking advantage of opportunities and staying disciplined at the plate.

Southwestern head coach Jared Brown acknowledged his team’s missed opportunities and defensive lapses, which allowed Fredonia to build an insurmountable lead. Despite a pitching change, the Trojans struggled to contain Fredonia’s offense throughout the game.

Fredonia’s depth and consistency were on full display as they added three more runs in the fourth inning to seal the victory. With the win, the Hillbillies improved to 7-1 overall and 5-0 in league play.

The two teams are set to face off again on Monday, with a rematch that promises to be another exciting showdown on the diamond. Stay tuned for more updates on Fredonia’s impressive baseball season.
