Igor Severino’s penalty increased as Nevada Commission rejects 6-month suspension for biting UFC opponent

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Igor Severino’s fate remains uncertain as the Nevada Commission delays a decision on his punishment until May. The Brazilian flyweight was disqualified and subsequently released from the UFC for biting opponent Andre Lima during a fight in March.

During a recent meeting, Nevada Deputy Attorney General Matthew Feeley proposed an adjudication agreement that included a six-month suspension, a $3,000 fine (30% of his purse), and prosecution fees for Severino. However, the commission rejected this recommendation, deeming it insufficient given the severity of the incident.

Commissioner Anthony Marnell expressed concern about setting a precedent with only a six-month suspension, citing the potential danger for future altercations. Despite Severino’s absence at the meeting, the commissioners discussed the possibility of a one-year suspension, which will be further deliberated in the upcoming full hearing in May.

Severino, who was released from the UFC following the incident, could still be signed by another promotion. The commission emphasized the need for a more substantial penalty, considering the gravity of his actions.

As Severino awaits his fate on temporary suspension, the commission will reconvene in May to determine the appropriate disciplinary measures. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
