The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) is set to elevate its academic offerings by introducing postgraduate degree courses starting from the 2024-25 academic session. This move comes after IIMC was declared a deemed-to-be university earlier this year, expanding its educational horizons beyond the current PG diploma courses in journalism and mass communication-related fields.
According to Nimish Rustagi, the Additional Director-General of IIMC, two Master of Arts (MA) programs will be launched in August – Media Business Studies and Strategic Communication. These programs will be available at IIMC’s New Delhi campus, with 40 seats allocated for each course. Additionally, special quotas will be reserved for experienced professionals and defense forces, with a course fee estimated at around Rs 2.4 lakh for one academic year.
The MA in Media Business Studies aims to cater to the growing demand for professional managers in the media industry. With the evolving landscape of media organizations and technological advancements, there is a need for individuals who can navigate the complexities of the industry effectively.
On the other hand, the MA in Strategic Communication will focus on preparing professionals to handle communications that align with the strategic objectives of nations and organizations. This program aims to produce skilled StratCom professionals who can contribute across various sectors such as governments, public and private organizations, think tanks, and global companies.
This initiative by IIMC signifies a significant step towards enhancing the quality of education in the field of journalism and mass communication, providing students with specialized knowledge and skills to excel in the dynamic media landscape.
