IIT Kanpur and DRDO Collaborate to Establish DIA Centre of Excellence for Advancing Research in Next-Generation Defence Technology | Education

IIT Kanpur and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) have joined forces to establish a DRDO-Industry-Academia Centre of Excellence (DIA CoE) on the IIT Kanpur campus. This collaboration aims to foster research in next-generation defense technologies.

The DIA CoE will focus on interdisciplinary research in various areas, including printing on flexible substrates, advanced nanomaterials, accelerated material design and development, high energy materials, and bioengineering. The center will spearhead research in these identified verticals to facilitate technology development in the academic environment.

Mr. Sanjay Tandon, former director of the Institute of Technology Management at Mussoorie, is serving as the Director of DIA CoE at IIT Kanpur. DRDO will fund the projects and establish key technical facilities and modern infrastructure required to boost R&D programs under the identified verticals.

The inauguration of the DIA CoE at IIT Kanpur was attended by Dr. Samir V Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and DRDO Chairman, and Prof Manindra Agarwal, Director of IIT Kanpur, among other dignitaries. The collaborative effort between DRDO, academia, and industry is seen as a crucial step towards advancing technology in the defense sector and achieving self-reliance in defense technologies.

Overall, the establishment of the DIA CoE at IIT Kanpur marks a significant milestone in the journey towards enhancing research and development in defense technology, ultimately contributing to the nation’s security and defense capabilities.
