Illicit Meat Sales on the Rise as Makeshift Slaughterhouse Found in Residential Garage

In a shocking discovery, a CBC News investigation has revealed that animals were being slaughtered inside a garage in the Woodcroft community of Edmonton, with the meat advertised for sale to consumers. The scene inside the garage was gruesome, with piles of goat carcasses, tubs of blood, and the remains of a skinned baby goat on a makeshift slaughter table.

Neighbour John Bos was alarmed by the sounds of bleating goats coming from the garage and witnessed goats being handled roughly with two-by-fours. The situation escalated when several goats escaped down the back alley, prompting Bos to call animal control officers.

Upon investigation, animal control officers found a disturbing sight inside the garage, with goat parts scattered everywhere and blood on the walls. The renter of the garage, Yusef Izairi, claimed he was slaughtering the animals for friends due to high meat prices, but denied selling the meat.

While Edmonton police investigated the incident, no charges were laid.
