Illinois Women’s Basketball Team Makes History with WBIT Title Win
The Illinois women’s basketball team achieved a historic milestone on Wednesday night by winning the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) title. In a thrilling championship game against Villanova, the Illini emerged victorious with a final score of 71-57.
Led by standout performances from Makira Cook, Genesis Bryant, and Kendall Bostic, the Illini showcased their talent and determination on the court. Cook scored a game-high 27 points, including an impressive 5 of 6 shooting from beyond the arc. Bryant added 17 points, while Bostic recorded a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds.
Despite trailing at halftime, the Illini rallied in the second half to outplay Villanova and secure the victory. Head coach Shauna Green praised her team’s resilience and ability to respond to challenges throughout the tournament.
