Marshalltown baseball faced a tough challenge on Wednesday as they took on Des Moines Lincoln in a doubleheader at Marshalltown High School. Despite showing more defensive consistency, the Bobcats fell short in both games, with the Railsplitters claiming victory in both the opener and the nightcap.

In the first game, Marshalltown found themselves in a five-run deficit early on but managed to claw back with three runs of their own. However, it wasn’t enough to overcome Lincoln’s lead, and the Railsplitters secured an 8-3 win. The Bobcats’ offensive efforts were highlighted by eighth-grader Garrett Thede’s solid relief pitching performance.

Game two saw Lincoln take an early lead with back-to-back run-scoring hits, putting the pressure on Marshalltown to respond. Despite a strong effort from Tayven Dutton with an RBI single, the Bobcats struggled with baserunning miscues that prevented them from closing the gap. Lincoln ultimately sealed the win with a 6-1 margin.

Head coach Colton Hanke emphasized the importance of limiting errors and maintaining defensive consistency moving forward. With a record of 1-9, Marshalltown looks to bounce back on the road against Ballard on Friday.

Despite the losses, the Bobcats showed resilience and determination on the field, highlighting areas for improvement as they continue to strive for success in the season.
