Improving mental health through physical exertion

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Push-Up Challenge is set to kick off in Australia, aiming to improve mental health and fitness for all participants. This free event will see individuals completing 3249 push-ups over 24 days, representing the number of lives lost to suicide in Australia in 2022.

For those who find the push-up target daunting, there is the option to aim for half the number or complete alternative exercises like sit-ups, air squats, or wall push-ups. Shannon Mills, the Club manager of Anytime Fitness Echuca, expressed her excitement for the challenge despite her nerves about the number of push-ups involved.

“I am participating in the challenge this year; I’m a bit nervous because push-ups are not my specialty,” she shared. “I can’t wait to see how many people get on board and the awareness we can bring to mental health, let alone how we can work together as a community to raise much-needed funds as well.”

Ms. Mills emphasized the importance of promoting exercise and mental health awareness through initiatives like the Push-Up Challenge. She highlighted the benefits of physical exercise on mental health, including the release of endorphins and the social aspect of working together as a team.

Anytime Fitness Echuca aims to raise $500 for the Push for Better Foundation to support individuals struggling with mental health issues. If you’re interested in joining or donating to the challenge, visit the website for more information. Let’s come together as a community to support mental health and fitness for all Australians.
