Tourism authorities in Mexico are taking steps to improve the treatment of arriving tourists at immigration checkpoints. Juan Enrique Suárez Del Real Tostado, the Secretary of Tourism for the state of Nayarit and President of the Unión de Secretarios de Turismo de México, is leading the charge to enhance the experience for international visitors.
The focus is not only on increasing the number of tourists coming to Mexico but also on ensuring they are treated with respect and warmth upon arrival. Suárez Del Real Tostado emphasized the importance of diversifying the tourism market and targeting a greater presence in Canada and the United States.
One key area of concern is the reported mistreatment of tourists by Immigration (IMN) officials. Asetur plans to address these complaints by requesting support from the Federal Secretary of Tourism to engage with the Ministry of the Interior and advocate for improved training for immigration officers.
Suárez Del Real Tostado stressed the significance of providing tourists with a positive experience from the moment they arrive in the country. He highlighted the impact of immigration treatment on the overall perception of Mexico as a tourist destination, emphasizing the need for warmth and hospitality at every touchpoint.
